5 Beauty and Fashion Summer Travel Essentials

Ready for a vacation? Make sure not to leave without these 5 travel essentials. I took these on a recent trip to Chicago, and I'm so happy that I did...

1) Aubrey Soothing Moisturizing Lotion in Evening Primose - Traveling tends to wreak havoc on your skin, and mine is no exception. I like this lotion because it's lightweight, plus it contains wheat germ and avocado oils, which are very rich in Vitamin E. This lotion is small enough (3 oz) to carry in your purse or carry-on.

2) Kelly Teegarden Organics Rose Water - When you're traveling long distances, it can make you feel...blah. I like to freshen up by spraying this on my face and neck.

3) Softlips lip balm - Actually, I never leave home without lip balm in my purse. This balm does exactly what it says: It keeps your lips soft, plus it contains SPF 20.

4) Love & Toast roller perfume in "Clementine Crush" - When you've been walking around at the beach or in the sun all day, you tend to get a little musty. I like to dab a little bit of this perfume behind the ears and on my wrists for a little boost of freshness.
Kushyfoot portable sandals in grey

5) Kushyfoot Sandal Flats to Go - These portable sandals definitely came in handy during my trip to Chicago. My friend and I did quite a bit of walking, and I was wearing ballet flats. My feet started to sweat and rub in the back of the shoe, so the sandals offered so much relief! And they're stylish too :)

Men's Summer Fashion Tips For Work

Men's long-sleeve button up shirt

I don't post very much about men's fashion, but in honor of Father's Day, I'd like to share a few men's fashion tips for work...I'm a sucker for a dapper-looking man in a nice shirt and tie!

However, first off I'd like to say that you should definitely consider donating to a charity shop any clothing that you haven't worn in at least 6 months. Any tatty or worn clothing should go to charity as well - unless it is beyond repair, then you should throw it away.

Put into suitable storage all your heavy, dark winter clothes and make way for the brighter summer pieces you should be thinking about buying by now. Thick patterned clothing will be replaced by lighter, solid colours with hardly any patterns – this applies mostly to designer shirts.

Items to consider adding to the summer work wardrobe are high-end fitted shirts made only by the best tailors. This is because you aren't going to be able to disguise those ill-fitting shirts under jackets or raincoats any more (well, we can hope). When you're commuting to work or attending that garden party, your shirt will have nowhere to hide! So it must be well-fitted to provide the strong foundation of your outfit. Another reason you shouldn't go for cheaper brands is that quality fabric won't struggle to breathe. Non-iron materials (i.e. the cheaper ones) will definitely cause a build-up of heat, which causes sweat – not a good look!

Red bow tieFor summer work ties, you should certainly choose silks, as they are lighter in weight, and go for bright, block colours as opposed to a heavy pattern or dense texture. A silk bow tie is a good investment as they can really make an impression at an informal or formal party.

You can also stand out from the crowd with a bow tie, but make sure you aren't too loud. You can do this by ensuring there is an element of contrast between the bow tie and your shirt so the different components of your outfit complement one another. A good rule of thumb is to wear a solid colour bow tie with a patterned shirt or vice versa.

What men's fashion tips would you like to add?

A New Jewelry Collection In the Making

I'm really excited about relaunching my handcrafted jewelry business soon. As much as I have loved helping clients with their blogging and social media, the artsy, creative side of me is itching to make a comeback.

I spent Saturday shopping for new beads and finding inspiration for a new fall collection. I want to come up with pieces that are truly unique and somewhat edgy. Lately I've been gravitating toward an "industrial" style - abstract and modern. I've been seeing alot of copper-colored jewelry and love the look of it.

So last night I came up with the idea of "Industrial Chic" which consists of different types of metals mixed with beads. After playing around with this idea, I created the ring pictured above. It's an adjustable ring with Chinese crystals wrapped with copper-colored wire.

This ring and other beaded jewelry pieces can be purchased at my Etsy shop.

You can follow my musings on jewelry and get behind-the-scenes look into my design process on my jewelry blog.

Dressing For Your Figure

Moulin prom dress

Do you have a hard time finding a summer dress that flatters your figure? There are five different body shapes, so knowing your body type will help you choose dresses that look good on you...

1) Apple
An apple shape is someone who tends not to have a particularly well-defined waist. However, it is extremely common for members of this group to have fantastic breasts or legs or both. Therefore, it is important to show off these features. The gorgeous evening dress to the right would be perfect for someone of an apple shape, as it creates a subtle waistline. The vertical stripes also elongate the body of the wearer, balancing out the width of the wearer.

Floral printed dress2) Pear
A pear shape will find that the majority of their weight is in their bottom and hips. They will tend to have smaller breasts but shapely waist and hips. The key to balancing out this body shape is to choose a design that is more detailed on the top. The summer dress to the left is a perfect example of this. The highly patterned top half of the dress draws the eyes upwards and away from the hips.

3) Strawberry
Pink prom dressA strawberry shaped person will be top heavy – which can be fantastic, but can sometimes look a little unbalanced. Depending on your preference, you can either try to accentuate what gifts you have, or you can balance it out with the right outfit. The dress to the right is a good example of how both of these can be achieved. The shaping around the breasts ensures that you will achieve cleavage to make anyone envious, but the flared skirt will add shape to your hips.

4) Hourglass
Sunset pencil dressIf you are lucky enough to have a hourglass figure, you will have a well-defined waist line and well balanced breasts and hips. You are lucky because most clothing will suit you. The beautiful vintage print dress to the left is a gorgeous example of a dress that would look perfect on an hour glass figure. If you are shorter, it will also elongate your figure vastly. The fitted nature of the dress will show off your fantastic curves.

5) Rectangle
Someone of a rectangular shape typically has very little in the way of curves. Instead, they will have broader shoulders and a relatively undefined waist, but generally they will be thin. The dress I have chosen for this body shape is a bright color so it will draw attention. The belted waist cinches in the figure, while the flared skirt and shape to the hips and the slight detail at the collar adds shape to the bust.
